LEWISTON, Idaho – Braden Mosley’s RBI single to score Alex Flock lifted Tennessee Wesleyan to a 3-2 victory over St. Thomas University and kept the Bulldogs undefeated in the 2019 Avista NAIA World Series at Lewis-Clark State College’s Harris Field.
St. Thomas scored first in the game that provided drama from the first pitch to the final run when Chris Garabedian homered to start the second inning. The score remained at 1-0 for St. Thomas until TWU took the lead when Mosley drove in two runs in the bottom of the fifth with a single to center.
The Bobcats responded when Gus Guerra scored on a passed ball in the top of the seventh. In its half of othe inning, Tennessee Wesleyan had runners at first and third with two out before Joel Rivero escaped the jam with a force out at second.
St. Thomas again had runners on base in the top of the eighth but Guerra was thrown out at the plate as he tried to score from second on a single by Joey Thompson. TWU went down in order in the bottom of the eighth and St. Thomas did the same in the top of the ninth to set up Mosley’s game-winning opportunity.
TWU (54-9) remains the only undefeated team in the series and takes on Science and Arts (47-11) in Wednesday’s 7 p.m. game. Georgia Gwinnett (48-12) and St. Thomas (47-14) play in the Wednesday opener at 3 p.m.
