LEWISTON, Idaho – Second-seeded Science & Arts methodically put together a run here and another there to win its opening round game in the 2019 Avista NAIA World Series 6-2 over Lewis-Clark State College Saturday.
The Drovers (47-10) scored once in the third, twice in the fifth and seventh, and once in the eighth to keep the Warriors (34-14-1) at bay. Junior pitcher Colton Williams went the distance in striking out 11 Warriors and limiting LCSC to seven hits off a .250 batting average.
Offensively, Williams was backed by the three hits apiece from P.J. Garcia and Luis Pelayo. Pelayo and Alex Sanchez had two RBI each.
The Drovers advance to Monday’s 7 p.m. game against St. Thomas, while the Warriors are headed to the elimination bracket to take on Bellevue University Monday at 8:30 a.m.
