LEWISTON, Idaho – Georgia Gwinnett put up big innings in the fifth, sixth, and seventh after making a two-run lead last for four innings, run-ruling Tennessee Wesleyan, 14-0, on Memorial Day at the 2025 Avista NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.

The Grizzlies broke the game open in the top of the sixth, taking a 9-0 lead on a grand slam by Paul  Winland, Jr., who was 2-for-3 in the game with five RBIs. Georgia Gwinnett secured the win with a five-run seventh inning that included a two-run hit by Scott Seeker and run-scoring doubles off the bats of Jackson Cobb and  Matthew Lee.

Tennessee Wesleyan (47-13) had runners in scoring position in the fourth, fifth, and sixth, but GGC starter Anthony Patterson III slammed the brakes on all three threats to get his seventh win of the 2025 season (7-3). Patterson struck out eight, as GGC improved to 55-5.

Jon Ponder led off the game with a double, and two batters later, Alex Harrell singled down the first-base line, as Ponder represented the game’s first run. Harrell, who ended the game 3-for-5, came home later in the inning, giving the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead.

GGC scored three in the fifth, the first on an infield single by Lee, and the second on a free pass, when Tyler M. Martin drew a bases-loaded walk. Kyle Norton’s bases-loaded bunt single brought home the third run, and the Grizzlies had a 5-0 lead through their half of the inning.

Kruise Newman had the only multi-hit game for Tennessee Wesleyan, going 2-for-3. The Bulldogs are still alive in the championship, meeting Webber International (Fla.) in an elimination game Tuesday at 11 a.m. PT.

Georgia Gwinnett continues its Series in the winner’s bracket Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. PT, taking on Southeastern (Fla.), and both games will air on the NAIA Network and Urban Edge Network at www.naia.org/watch.
