GAME NOTES/HIGHLIGHTS

  • A common theme in the 2022 series was the impact rain, field conditions, and weather forecasts played on the tournament bracket and schedule
  • Thomas Broyles was the first batter to step into the box for either side and immediately singled down the left field line
  • Joe Ball would get out of the inning with consecutive outs, but he would not fare as well in the second
  • Singles from Isaac Nunez and Stephen Cullen placed runners on second and third base, leaving space for Jose Marcano to load the bases when he was hit by the pitch
  • The Fire lit up the scoreboard first on Shamir Morales’ long ball which smacked high off the center field wall, scoring Nunez
  • Broyles plated the second run of the inning with his sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Cullen
  • Lewis-Clark State wasted no time knotting the score at 2-2 via a double down the line which scored Zach Threlfal and Coy Stout who were on base by walk and hit by pitch
  • The next batter Aidan Nagle hit the ball to right field which scored Riley Way and Pu’ukani De Sa, giving the Warriors a quick 4-2 advantage
  • Brian Fuentes blasted his third HR of the series which closed the gap to 4-3 favoring LCSC
  • Mirroring the second inning, the Warriors got the offense cranking in the bottom of the fourth all with two outs away
  • First, De Sa homered to right, Linscott singled up the middle to score the second, Nagle cross home on a wild pitch, and a fourth on a base hit by Justin Mazzone 
  • Southeastern trotted out Robb Adams for the second time in the tournament, after he threw 133 pitches and struck out 10 across 7.2 innings in a no-decision on Saturday, May 28th in Game Six
  • Adams would be pulled after allowing eight runs and nine hits, with two outs award in the fourth
  • For the second time in two at-bats, Fuentes launched a homer to center field bringing the SEU deficit to 8-4 in the top of the fifth 
  • Meanwhile, LCSC starter Ball took the mound for the first time since the Opening Round
  • Linscott singled through the gap and subsequently stole second base which broke the LC single season record without being caught stealing (27-27)
  • Thomas Broyles launched a two-RBI no-doubter into right center field as none of the outfielders moved to chase the ball
  • One batter after, Fuentes launched his third home run of the game, all in consecutive at bats
  • Singles from Nagle and De Sa set the table for an RBI base knock to center by Linscott which gave the Warriors a 10-7 lead entering the eighth inning
  • A one out single from Cullen forced a pitching change for the Warriors; intitally it looked like the Fire were going to chip into the LCSC lead, but a smooth double play by Way, Davis, and White ended the top of the eighth
  • With a 10-7 score, the Fire had the bases juiced but only one out to play with as Isaac Nunez stepped into the box
  • Eli Schubert was tasked with getting the five out save for the Warriors, which seemed in jeopardy when he singled to left field scoring Buentes and Abdel Guadalupe to cut it to a 10-9 score
  • Facing a full count and two runners on, Cullen was out on a called third strike to end the game and force the if necessary
