LEWISTON, Idaho – Colton Walker shackled Lewis-Clark State’s hitters while his teammates came up with timely hits as Bellevue University knocked the Warriors out of the 2019 Avista NAIA World Series with a 4-2 victory Monday morning at Harris Field.
In going the distance for the Bruins, Walker struck out seven and allowed six hits – one of which was a ninth-inning home run by Kody Garvin.
Lewis-Clark State struck first when Thomas Lampkin Jr. scored on Kyle Callahan’s first-inning single. From that point on, Walker methodically kept the Warriors in check. He only allowed more than one hit in an inning – the bottom of the fifth.
Meantime, the Bruins faced five Warrior pitchers and came up with two runs in the fifth and two more in the eighth. All told, they had just five hits but they were timely ones with Travis Tanaka’s fifth-inning single driving in two and his eighth-inning single bringing in one. Bellevue’s other eighth-inning run came via Wataru Kazama’s sacrifice bunt.
Bellevue (48-15) advances to Tuesday’s 8:30 a.m. game against the loser of Monday night’s game between Indiana Tech and Tennessee Wesleyan. Lewis-Clark State wraps up the season 35-15-1.
